PROJECT PROGRESS

Update - 4/23/06: From House to Bunker!

I was visiting the school 2 weeks ago to talk with the leaders about the irrigation project. We knew that the pump house was to be built in a flood plain. We had thought that the average flood would be around 4-6 feet of water. But, as we were talking I asked, "Say, how deep does the water get when It floods?"

The reply was, "Oh, Darrie you would not believe, EVERYTHING is covered with water-- trees, bananas, everything!" Well, we decided to see what the highest thing around the flood plain was and came up with the conclusion that it could flood as deep as 20 feet of water. I asked, "How often does this happen?" The reply was "every 5 to 10 years." Now, how does one build a pump house that will be able to withstand being covered with 20 feet of moving water? So it's back to the drawing board, and we will probably scratch the house idea and look at building a bunker! We should have good idea in a few weeks on what it will look like.
